WELCOME! Covid this and that
As we enter a new year (2021) it all seems very futuristic. Every one seems focused on the COVID-19 pandemic, which hasn't affected me too much on a personal or professional, or even economic level. I do live with the fear of being infected, as I am a Type 1 diabetic, therefore highly at risk. However, despite my boyfriend having contracted it in the early stages (April 2020) I've managed to stay healthy through it all. I go to work. I go home. Once a week I food shop. Maybe I'm just not exposed as much as I think.
There's a lot of conversation about whether or not to get the vaccine, which was rushed into production. There don't seem to be any serious side effects but it's only been administered to a few in the last two weeks. I've always gotten a flu shot, and I take five injections of insulin a day, so I have no fear of needles. I just truly in my heart hope it's safe.
Sometimes I surprise myself with how "tuned in" I can be. I started writing a short story/novel about six years ago. It began as a futuristic wry satire about the obesity epidemic in America. Due to evolution, humans become shapeless blobs with very little muscle or bone mass due to inactivity and overeating over the hundreds of decades. NOW I'm considering re-writing the premise, substituting a viral pandemic as the reason people become obese and no longer socialize face-to-face. Think of the possibilities: zoom meetings, Microsoft Teams, online dating, social media, online gambling, etc. Naturally there's a subplot, and romance involved in the story.
So be prepared readers for my personal opinions, my attitude, and my observations. As I take my daily walks, we'll muse together over life, love, money, work, diabetes (of course!) and more. You may not agree with them all. I merely ask that you subscribe and keep an open mind.
